EXHIBIT
OVERVIEW

Curated by Dr. Stacey Uradomo-Barre, who curated The Wing’s 2009 exhibition Yellow Terror: The Collections and Paintings of Roger Shimomura, this all female APA artist exhibit is the first of it’s kind in the Muesum’s history. Featuring installation artwork of six artists, they all draw from their life and experiences, resulting in distinct, powerful, and provocative narratives.

“The installations and conceptual art of Kaili Chun reflects the continuous negotiation of the inner and socio-political struggles of indigenous people in relation to mainstream society, political structures, and dominant conventions.”

“Northern Californian based artist Terry Acebo Davis focuses on intimate personal history as a source for her emotional work.”

“It is nearly impossible to categorize the work of Yong Soon Min, who has produced an extensive and diverse body of art in various media over the course of 4 decades.”

Tamiko Thiel creates virtual and augmented reality installations that investigates social and cultural issues in relation to their interplay with spaces. …For the installation at the Wing Luke Museum, Thiel collaborates with her mother Midori Kono Thiel幸运快3, a painter and calligraphy artist living in Seattle.”

“Recognized for her austere, quiet, and contemplative installations, Lynne Yamamoto’s art interweaves complex narratives of memory, family, and Japanese American history.”
